Since some of you may be new to WordPress, here’s how it works. You’ll find a section marked META in the sidebar, with a link marked Site Admin. Click Site Admin, and you’ll be transported to the Dashboard, which is the behind the scenes section of the site.
On the left, you’ll see a link for POSTS. Click it. You’ll then find ADD NEW. Click it. Adding a new post will cause it to appear on the front page of this web site, so use it for news, post photos of works in progress or finished pieces, etc.
If it’s going to be a long post, you can put in a More Tag. In the upper row of icons, the 4th icon from the right is the More Tag. Place your cursor where you want to cut the article, and hit that button. Then you’ll see the Read More thingie as you see below. Let’s get acquainted with the editor. First off, note the two tabs at the top right corner- Visual and HTML. Most of you will want to use the visual editor. Now, at the top, you’ll find a long row of icons. If you only see one long row, click the far right icon, the Kitchen Sink. That should add a second row of icons, for text editing and formatting.
If you have text you’ve copied from somewhere else and want to paste it into a post, please pay close attention. In the lower row of icons are two clipboards- one with a T, and one with a W. Use the one marked W for pasting Word for Windows formatted content. For anything else, use the T for standard Text. Pasting it into a post with this T icon will strip out formatting which will conflict with the CSS that runs this site. In other words, if your original text was colored red, and you just paste it into the editor without using the clipboard, it will display red, or worse, it’ll fight the style sheet for the site. If you MUST use colors, in the second row of icons is a letter A, which is the text color feature. But please, use it sparingly.
You can add photos here. In the editor, you’ll see Upload/Insert, followed by 4 icons. Click the first icon, that’s for adding Images. Browse for the photo on your computer, or tab over and add a photo from a URL of an image online somewhere. Hit upload. Now look for the size to display it- please use common sense here, a massive photo isn’t needed, select a size that’ll show it off nicely. Then, hit the checkbox to LINK TO ORIGINAL IMAGE. When someone clicks the smaller version, it will expand and fill the screen. Add anything else you’d like to add, then scroll down and hit the button to INSERT INTO POST.
You can select a category for the post on the right side- add a new category if you don’t see one that applies to your post. When you’re all done, hit the blue button on the right marked PUBLISH, and your post will appear on the front page.
You can always come back and edit a post if you goofed something up, so don’t be afraid to experiment with it, and you can only edit posts that you’ve made. If you get stuck, give a holler.
